Philomena Thumboochetty

1913 - 2000

The Philomena Thumboochetty Music Academy is an institution built to honour the legacy of the late violinist, Smt. Philomena Thumboochetty by her son Ravi Thumboochetty.Nicknamed the “Indian Fiddler Queen” she was a child prodigy and the youngest Indian to have studied at the Paris Conservatoire. Ms. Philomena was the student of the legendary Romanian musician George Enesco. At her many performances in Europe, she captivated audiences with her flawless technique and brilliant tone. She has performed for the King and Queen of England at the Royal court and for his highness, Maharaja Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar of Mysore.In the years that followed, she was a prominent concert soloist who graced audiences in India with some unforgettable recitals and was a shining beacon of sublime musical standard from the city of Bangalore. Her work, talent and musical legacy will continue with us through the BCCO in the years to come.Staying true to our inspiration, the PTMA was created for the BCCO and to also provide a privileged music education nestled in the heart of Bangalore.
